In the near future strange creatures known as Angels trigger the "Second Impact", leveling nearly 90% of the
world's cities. Fourteen years later, anxious for the return of the
Angels, an organization known as NERV, the very last possible defense
against the Angels, creates creatures called EVAs, mechs (giant
robots) that are piloted by children born the year of the Second Impact.
Only specific children can control the strange mechanical creations:
Shinji Ikari, estranged son of the head of NERV (dislikes his father) and who would much
rather do something else rather than pilot an EVA; Rei Ayanami, the quiet and
mysterious First Child who would die for the commander;
and Asuka Langley Soryu, a super energetic loudmouth who loves the thrill of combat. As they battle the Angels one by one,
they discover a lot more about nature, the future of human kind,
and the dangers that lie ahead.
