Sushi Rice
Sushi Rice is not normal rice like we eat all the time. Sushi Rice is mixed with many other ingredients.
Ingredients:
6 tablespoons Japanese rice vinegar
2 tablespoons sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
Some Rice (duh!)
Before cooking, rinse the rice several times in running water until the
water runs clear. Cook the rice until it is light and fluffy. After the
rice is done, stir it with a chopstick to loosen the grains, then let
it sit, covered, for about 10 minutes to steam. While the rice is still
warm, gradually sprinkle the vinegar mixture over the rice, fanning the
rice as you go. Use a rice paddle with a cutting motion to mix the
vinegar mixture into the rice without mashing the grains. The fanning
produces the shiny gloss within the sushi rice. It takes about 10
minutes to fan the rice thoroughly. Proceed to shape the rice into
sushi as desired. Suggestion while handling/shaping the rice: wet your
fingers with water to prevent the rice from sticking to them.

Making the Sushi
If you want to make the sushi, you need dried seaweed, sesame
seeds, some fish (e.g. shrimp, squid, salmon, tuna, etc.), and maybe
some ginger strips, soy sauce, wasabi on the side. If you want to make
California Rolls, you can also use some avacado.
Some things you can do with the rice and the seaweed are you can
wrap the sushi inside the rice if you are making California Rolls. If
you aren't making that, then you can mold the rice into an oval shape
and place the fish on top. Then you can take a small strip of seaweed
and wrap it around the fish and the rice. One other thing you can do is
you can place the fish inside the rice and then wrap seaweed on the
outside of the fish and rice. You can put sesame seeds on the rice
before you mold the rice to make sushi. You can also place ginger
strips on top of the sushi and wasabi on top of it if you want to
(wasabi is like horseradish, so beware!). Dip the sushi in some soy
sauce and enjoy!
